Since the Imagination Library, Dolly Parton’s book gifting program, in Montgomery County started it has had tremendous success.
“In our first year we have reached over 2200 children and had over 20,000 books distributed,” said Imaginations Library coordinator Wendy Baldwin. “This is just going great, but it means we have to keep raising money. So far, we have funded this with donations from civic groups like Kiwanis, Lions, Ruritan, businesses and individuals and through writing grants.”
Now, the group is hosting a community fundraiser combining fun and raising money for the cause this Saturday, May 31.
The Fun Fair event will be held at Slusser’s Chapel,11 a.m. – 3 p.m. “We will have a plant sale, hand painting, items for raffle and silent auction, music, food trucks, the Freedom First ice cream truck, a lot of fun and cool stuff,” said Baldwin. “The raffle will include a handmade VT themed quilt that is beautiful. The local artists have painted butterfly pictures that will be available.”
Through Imaginations Library, children get free books until they turn five. “We have about 350 graduates and we are inviting them to come get their free graduation certificate at the festival,” said Baldwin. “Joelle will do a story time from 11:30 a.m. -12; that’s always popular.”
Slusser’s Chapel is located at 1543 Mt Tabor Rd, Blacksburg.
