Virtual Author Talk with Rex Ogle

Hosted by the Radford Public Library, 4- 5 p.m. on-line. Award-winning author Rex Ogle will talk to viewers about his struggles navigating sixth grade as written about in his book Free Lunch, the story of Rex’s first semester of sixth grade and the difficulties of being a free lunch kid in a wealthy school district. Blacksburg Farmers Market

At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg; 2 – 6 p.m. (New hours for April). The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. Market Square Jam

Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam is an official Crooked Road-affiliated venue that provides fun and entertainment on Wednesday evenings, June through September. The jam takes place at Market Square Park, 7-9 p.m. Catering to traditional Old-Time music, the Market Square Jam brings musicians together to pick a tune, enjoy fun times with friends and family, and take in all that downtown Blacksburg has to offer.

Radford Photo Club meeting

The Radford Photo Club will meet at Bisset Park, Radford, 5 to 8 p.m. Consider this an opportunity to meet fellow photographers at a relaxed gathering. Members are from throughout the New River Valley. To volunteer to bring food, contact Joyce Crowder at joycecrowder2@icloud.com.

 

Christiansburg Farmers Market

The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located in the Recreation Center parking lot, 1600 N. Franklin St. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, handmade jewelry and more. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check Facebook for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The market will run now through Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

Hosted by the Pilot Community Center, 5-7 p.m. at the Pilot Community Center, 4449 Brush Creek Road, Pilot, Va. For mori Information call 540-382-6537. The meal is $10 per plate and includes spaghetti, bread, salad, and a drink. Dine-in or take-out available.

Radford Art Show Opening reception

The Radford Art Show (July 23 – August 9) features work from around the region in a juried exhibition with cash prizes. Everyone is invited to the opening reception Friday, July 25, 5-7 p.m., to enjoy the variety of work, meet the artists and be treated to refreshments. All Radford University Art Museum events are free and open to the public.

Mary Draper Ingles Festival

Fans of colonial heroine Mary Draper Ingles and history buffs will find the 2025 festival in Radford City and Pulaski County filled with music, historic interpreters and sites, food trucks, children’s activities, art and the scenic New River. First Baptist Church holds annual Homecoming

We warmly invite you to join us for our upcoming Homecoming celebration on Sunday, July 27. Our theme is “Walking by Faith and Growing in Grace,” inspired by 2 Corinthians 5:7 and 2 Peter 3:18.  Please come and share in our 10:45 a.m. morning worship service as we gather together in fellowship and faith. Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Steppin’ Out Festival

Downtown Blacksburg, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Steppin’ Out features over 250 artists and crafts people from around the United States selling unique handcrafted items – jewelry, pottery, textiles, metal work, basketry, stained & fused glass, yard art, fine art, furniture, toys, artisan foods and so much more!

 

Monday, Aug. 4:

 

August Kids program screening

Program provides a $75 voucher for each income qualifying student in grades kindergarten through grade 12 attending Radford City Schools. Vouchers can only be redeemed at the local Fairlawn Walmart to purchase new school clothing and tennis shoes for each school aged child (K-12) in a family. This year’s screening for eligibility will be Aug. 4, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.  and 4 – 6 p.m. at Central Church, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford.

 

Oak Tree Townhomes HOA meeting

HOA of Oak Tree Townhomes phases III, IV, V and VI will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Townside Property Management offices on Professional Park Drive in Blacksburg. All homeowners and phase community members are encouraged to attend in person or by appfolio zoom to participate in decision making for the development.

Book Sale

There will be a book sale at the Radford Public Library on Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Even though the library hours are different than the book sale hours, the sale will be there those hours. Many, many children’s books will be available. Prices are the same and we always have free items to choose. Come and support the Radford Public Library.

Rockin’ Main Street Concert

Downtown Christiansburg, 5- 9 p.m. Live performances by two local favorites! “The Voice” finalist Jimmy Mowery takes the stage at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., The Jason Adamo Band will take the stage with a blend of pop and rock music. Beer, wine, and food trucks will be available at the event. Please bring your IDs if you plan to purchase beer or wine. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to sit watch the live music. This event is rain or shine.

 

Sunday, Aug. 10:

 

Blacksburg Vintage Market

Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month April – November, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the best selection of vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities, and who knows what else. Market is located in downtown Blacksburg at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square park, under the Farmer’s market structure.

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter

Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel on Tyler Ave., is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held at the restaurant 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.
