A candidate for Christiansburg’s town council says the community is missing a special area to remember history.
Harry Collins would love to see Christiansburg develop a “Statue Park” comprising of famous leaders affiliated with Christiansburg, such as William Christian (the originator of the town), Booker T. Washington, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Charles Shaeffer (started the Christiansburg Institute), and other people the citizens may want to include.
“It is known that George Washington spent a lot of time here because the Wilderness Trail ran right through Christiansburg. So, a statue of him would be great as well,” he said.
Collins, who is a former member of the governmental body, is one of six candidates for next week’s election.
