BLACKSBURG – Warm Hearth Village continued its tradition of giving back to the community with its fifth annual Trick-or-Treat Trail, hosted by the Department of Life Enrichment.

The event welcomed guests of all ages to stroll a festive, accessible trail winding through campus – encountering aliens, ghosties, monsters and special guests from the 501st Legion along the way.

Participants enjoyed candy stops, spooky games, a wooded hayride, mini magic shows, free concessions, and local craft vendors. The suggested entry fee was a box of tissues to support Micah’s Pantry, which serves Village seniors in need—reinforcing the Warm Hearth’s commitment to community care.

This year’s event drew more than 800 participants, making it the largest Trick-or-Treat Trail to date. The event was coordinated by Life Enrichment Director Mardy Baker in collaboration with the Housing Department, Warm Hearth at Home, Human Resources, Marketing, and the Foundation. Volunteers from VCOM and Virginia Tech’s Pre-Physician Assistant Club also played a key role in bringing the trail to life.

“It’s incredible to see this community event grow each year,” said Baker. “We’re proud to host a fun and safe space for children, families, and especially those with disabilities who can easily navigate our paved path. Everyone becomes a kid again when they see the inflatables and costumes—it’s an intergenerational experience that brings joy to everyone who attends. We keep it lighthearted and festive, and it’s especially fun to see the look of surprise on kids’ faces when they leave with bags full of candy.”
