Santa Claus is helping Brittany McCann prepare their list for Brittany’s Sleigh Ride to help local underprivileged children at Christmas time. A car, truck and motorcycle show combined with a dice run will help to raise funds and will be held at Duncan Auto Imports on Prospect Drive in Christiansburg.

Larry Hypes, Contributing writer

BLACKSBURG – Looking for an example of “It’s more blessed to give than to receive?”

Then look no further than Brittany McCann, a shining example of service that goes beyond self. Born three months premature in 1984, she and sister Tiffany spent 52 days in the hospital. The fair-haired young lady has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Several surgeries and near-death experiences later, she has not surrendered but rather won a victory.

Determined to succeed while helping others, she leads the Brittany McCann Project, Inc., a non-profit organization officially incorporated in 2014 to assist in a variety of ways including helping local families in need at Christmas time.

To that end, the Second Annual “Brittany’s Sleigh Ride” will be held Saturday, June 13 at Duncan Auto Imports at 2300 Prospect Drive in Christiansburg. One of Brittany’s key supporters is local auto dealer Gary Duncan. There will be a car, Jeep, truck and motorcycle show, and everyone is encouraged to participate in the dice run following the car show.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the KSU Dice Run starts at 10 a.m. The rain date will be June 20.

Local businessman Randall Maxwell, coordinating the event, says, “Brittany is very involved in this project, she vets all persons, and cares so deeply about helping those who need it. A group of men who attend Tuesday Morning Church, and there is no offering taken but a statue holding a plate is outside the door and any money placed there is given to Brittany’s efforts to help others,” he says. “They are 100 percent behind this effort.”

Brittany says her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” She says she believes in a better future and is anxious to help those around her have a better world as well.

Brittany is the daughter of Gerry and Teresa McCann of Christiansburg. For more information contact www.BrittanyProject.com to help Brittany help others.
