Radford University Athletics has announced that has resigned as the director of track and field and cross country.
Assistant Coach Paul Zalewski will serve as the interim director. Sayers has been a staple with the Radford track and field and cross country program since joining as an assistant coach in 2015. She was promoted to director of the program on July 31, 2019.
The former assistant coach at Northern Iowa and Roanoke College was instrumental in getting the return of the men’s track and field program in 2025-26. Dormant since 2014, Sayers led the Radford men to solid finishes at the 2026 Big South Outdoor meet, including a second-place finish in discus. Just a week later, Virginia Tech Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Ben Thomas announced Sayers as the newest addition to the Hokies’ cross country and track and field staff. She will serve as the Hokies’ director of operations.
Men’s ACC schedule
The Atlantic Coast Conference revealed the full 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule this past week with Virginia Tech opening its league slate on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum on Dec. 30 against Louisville. The Hokies’ conference opener vs. Louisville marks the seventh straight season they will open ACC play at home. With the recent adjustment in ACC men’s hoops to an 18-game schedule, the Hokies will play two home-and-home series, this season against rival Virginia, and Boston College. Notably, Duke, the ACC champs, do not appear on the Hokies’ schedule for the first time since Tech joined the conference in 2004. The Hokies will play host to four of their nine home league games on a Saturday, including a meeting with North Carolina on Feb. 27.
Virginia Tech will play eight games against squads from the ACC that featured in the 2026 NCAA tournament with seven of them being contested at home on Carilion Clinic Court. The 2027 T. Rowe Price ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held March 9-13 at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Shriners Classic matchups
Matchups for the 2026 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic, an event with six teams playing three standalone games, will be played on Nov. 20 and 22 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. The six participating teams are Dayton, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Utah, and Virginia Tech. The Hokies will face Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. in a contest that will be shown on ESPN2. Two days later, Tech will take on Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. Virginia Tech and Northwestern have only competed against each other once, a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Cassell Coliseum in 2015. The Wildcats won that contest 81-79 in overtime. The meeting with Oklahoma State will be the fifth in series history and the first since a Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational meeting in Brooklyn in 2022, ’s only time facing the Cowboys. The Radford University men’s golf program placed second as freshman of Wytheville highlighted the weekend with three incredible rounds to finish with an individual championship at the Bryan National Collegiate.
Goode’s weekend was one to write home about and then some as the newcomer had a crazy turnaround in his second collegiate tournament finishing in first place in the Bryan National Collegiate 13-under par to lead the Highlanders and the entire field. Goode came into day one in good form, shooting 70 (-2) for what would be his lowest score of the weekend.
